Our live demonstration of the completed module (pictured above) started on 23rd March 2004 at Ross Deeptech Initiatives Ltd
in Stonehaven, near Aberdeen. The stack operated for 1500 hrs and was shut down to take it to the "All-Energy" Exhibition in Aberdeen on
25th May 2004.
More than 50 visitors met us on the stand and we thank those who declared an interest in acquiring one or two units when we go into
manufacture of the full size device.
We the took the full size 2kW stack to show on the Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association stand at the "6th European
Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Forum" in Lucerne, Switzerland at the end of June 2004. More than 70 visitors expressed an interest in our
unit and we established new contacts that will make it possible to build at least 12 units in the next 2 years.
Q:- Why were the shows at the "All-Energy" in Aberdeen and SOFC fuel cell forum in Lucerne such important events?
A:- This was a world debut for a unique seal-less SOFC planar stack design and it's being manufactured right here in
Scotland! - the result of 5 years of design, development and testing. These stacks prove conclusively that the Lindsay multi-cell
seal-less concept works, with all the "cost-down" advantages the patent-applied-for design offers. Mass production of fuel cell
applications from low power UPS systems to domestic 2-5kW systems is now a commercial possibility. CHP modules with 5kW to MW
outputs will follow in the future.
Q:- Why is Solid Oxide the fuel cell system of the future for static and marine heat and power?
A:- Gas conversion to electricity is performed directly by a solid state electro-chemical process, and hence has the advantage
of no moving parts. Heat is also produced in the process, but not through conventional combustion. Fuel conversion efficiencies
of over 80% can be achieved with water being the only emission when hydrogen is the fuel. SOFCs can also operate using a variety
of readily available carbon and non-carbon based fuels with much lowered levels of greenhouse gas emissions.
